Montreal Alouettes release OL Theo Grant, sign OL Travon Taylor

The Montreal Alouettes released offensive lineman Theo Grant and signed offensive lineman Travon Taylor on Tuesday according to the CFL Transactions page.

Theo Grant is six foot four and weighs 280 pounds. The 24-year-old from Halifax, Nova Scotia, was selected in the fourth round (32nd pick) of the 2023 CFL Draft. The Alouettes released him on August 15, 2023, and he returned to Queen’s University for his final collegiate season.

Grant signed with the Montreal Alouettes on January 10, 2024. In 2024, Grant dressed for 16 games as a backup. In 2024, Montreal averaged 25.3 points per game (5th), 332.9 net offense per game (9th), 84.3 rushing yards per game (8th), 264.4 passing yards per game (7th), and 46 touchdowns (4th).

Collegiately, Grant played 32 games in three seasons at Queen’s University (2019, 2021-23) playing right tackle for the Gaels. In 2022, he was part of an offensive line that finished second in the conference in rushing at 239.3 yards per game and fourth in the conference in passing at 227.3 yards per game.

In 2023, the Gaels’ offensive finished first in the nation in rushing yards with 242.3 per game. In addition, running back Jared Chisari led the nation in rushing yards (1,178).

Travon Taylor is six foot five and weighs 320 pounds. A native of Miami, Florida, Taylor went undrafted in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Collegiately, Taylor played four seasons at Alabama State (2019-23) playing 16 games for the Hornets. In 2021, Alabama State averaged 21.82 points per game, 112.7 rushing yards per game, 190.36 passing yards per game, 303.1 total yards per game, 31 touchdowns, and allowed 23 sacks finishing 5-6 for the season. He missed the 2022 season due to injury. In 2023, Alabama State averaged 20.64 points per game, 111 rushing yards per game, 188.91 passing yards per game, 299.9 total yards per game, 30 touchdowns, and allowed 15 sacks finishing 7-4 for the season.

Then, Taylor transferred to Western Kentucky in 2024 playing left tackle in 12 games for the Hilltoppers. In 2024, Western Kentucky averaged 24.93 points per game, 109.3 rushing yards per game, 264.64 passing yards per game, 373.9 total yards per game, 42 touchdowns, and allowed 26 sacks finishing 8-6 for the season appearing in the Boca Raton Bowl. He was named an All-CUSA Honorable Mention.
