The Edmonton Elks and linebacker Tony Jones agreed to a one-year contract extension through the 2024 season on Friday.

Tony Jones is six foot two and weighs 235 pounds. The 28-year-old from Casselberry, Florida, made 41 tackles, 11 tackles on special teams, one sack, and one forced fumble in 18 games for the Elks in 2023. The Elks signed Jones as a free agent on September 12, 2022. In 2022, Jones made two tackles and two tackles on special teams in two games.

Before Edmonton, Jones was on the Toronto Argonauts practice squad in 2022. In 2021, Jones played for the Iowa Barnstormers (IFL) with 71 tackles, 3.5 sacks, one forced fumble, and two fumble recoveries in ten games and was named the IFL Rookie of the Year.

Collegiately, Jones played two seasons at Butler Community College (2015-16) with 176 tackles (107 solo, 69 assists), 33 tackles for loss, 12.5 sacks, seven forced fumbles, six fumble recoveries, six pass breakups, and one interception in 22 games for the Grizzlies.

Then, he transferred to Texas Tech (2017-18) with 77 tackles (47 solo, 30 assists), 14 tackles for loss, eight sacks, one interception, three pass breakups, and three fumble recoveries in 24 games for the Red Raiders.
