Toronto Argonauts sign DL Dom Peterson and DB Cody Hale

The Toronto Argonauts signed former Nevada defensive lineman Dom Peterson, University of Toronto defensive back Cody Hale, and Sherbrooke offensive lineman Anthony Vandal on Friday.

Dom Peterson is six foot and weighs 299 pounds. The 24-year-old from Harbor City, California, made 34 tackles (19 solo, 15 assists), 13 tackles for loss, six sacks, two forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, and one blocked kick in 12 games for the Wolf Pack in 2022.

Peterson played five seasons at Nevada (2018-22) with 185 tackles (113 solo, 72 assists), 55.5 tackles for loss, 28 sacks, four pass breakups, six forced fumbles, five fumble recoveries, and one blocked kick in 58 games. He is a two-time All-Mountain West Second Team (2020, 2022), All-Mountain West First Team (2019), and All-Mountain West Honorable Mention (2021).

Cody Hale is six foot three and weighs 208 pounds. The 24-year-old from Oakville, Ontario, made 28 tackles (22 solo, 12 assists), one tackle for loss, one interception, and five pass breakups in nine games for the Varsity Blues.

Hale played four seasons at the University of Toronto (2018-19, 2021-22) with 62 tackles (50 solo, 24 assists), two tackles for loss, two interceptions for 49 yards, two touchdowns, six pass breakups, and two fumble recoveries in 30 games.

Anthony Vandal is six foot four and weighs 290 pounds. The 25-year-old from Sorel-Tracy, Quebec, was drafted by the Argonauts in the eighth round (72nd pick) in the 2023 CFL Draft. Collegiately, Vandal played at Sherbrooke and was named a RESQ All-Star three times and Second Team All-Star for the entirety of U SPORTS.

The Argonauts also released running back Quay Holmes. Holmes is six foot one and weighs 215 pounds. The 24-year-old from Powder Springs, Georgia, signed with Toronto as a free agent in November 2022.

Collegiately, Holmes played five seasons at East Tennessee State (2017-21) with 798 carries for 4,233 yards, 45 touchdowns, 93 catches for 799 yards, six touchdowns, and 53 kick returns for 1,300 yards in 43 games for the Buccaneers.

In his final season, Holmes had 265 carries for 1,553 yards, 17 touchdowns, 32 catches for 331 yards, three touchdowns, and 16 kick returns for 399 yards in 13 games.

He is a two-time finalist for the Walter Payton Award as the most outstanding offensive player in the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS). Named Southern Conference (SoCon) Offensive Player of the Year as a senior.

In addition, he is a First Team All-SoCon running back as a senior and junior, Second Team as a Sophomore. Second Team All-SoCon Returner as a junior. Named to All-SoCon Freshman Team, and Named SoCon Freshman of the Year.
