On Saturday, Philadelphia Stars offensive lineman Alex Akingbulu signed with the Washington Commanders. He is the second Stars player to sign with Washington after Channing Stribling.

The 24-year-old played five games at left tackle for the Stars, helping them reach the USFL Championship game, where the Stars fell short to the Birmingham Stallions 33-30. Before signing with Philadelphia, Akingbulu attended the Dallas Cowboys rookie minicamp.

He played 13 games in 2021 for Fresno State at right tackle. The Bulldogs’ offense were ranked 14th in FBS, averaging 464.85 offensive yards per game. Fresno State averaged 33.4 points per game, averaging 137.2 rushing yards per game and 326.7 passing yards per game. He was named a first-team All-Mountain West nominee.

The Carson, California, native began his collegiate career at UCLA (2016-17) but did not see playing due to rehabbing an injury. Akingbulu transferred to Fresno State but had to sit out a year and spent three seasons with the Bulldogs (2019-21), playing 22 games.

In 2019, he played seven games and was a primary field goal coverage contributor. Then in 2020, he played two games at left tackle and was named to the Fall Academic All-Mountain West team.
