On Wednesday, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats re-signed two-time CFL East All-Star defensive back Cariel Brooks to a new two-year contract extension through the 2023 season.
Cariel Brooks (30-years-old) played 12 games in 2021 with one sack and five interceptions, earning him being named 2021 CFL All-Star and CFL East All-Star. This will be Brooks’ fifth season in Hamilton.
Brooks signed with the Arizona Cardinals as an undrafted free agent from Adams State University and spent most of his career on the practice squad for two seasons. In 2017, he signed with the Toronto Argonauts but was released in June.
Two months later, Brooks signed with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and played 11 games that year with 33 tackles, one special teams tackle, one forced fumble, and one interception.
In 2018, Brooks had a breakout year, playing 18 games with 57 tackles, three forced fumbles, and four interceptions on his way to being named CFL East All-Star for the first time in his career.
During the Tiger-Cats two Grey Cup runs, Brooks played 29 games with 80 tackles, one special teams tackle, two sacks, and seven interceptions.
