Calgary Stampeders kicker Rene Paredes kicked a game-winning 44-yard field to give the Stampeders a 22-19 win over the Saskatchewan Roughriders Saturday night at Mosaic Stadium. It was the Stampeder’s second straight win, and their record is now 4-5 for the season.
Stampeders quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell got off to a good start in the first quarter when he moved out of the pocket before finding Markeith Ambles for a 71-yard touchdown for a 7-0 lead with 14:28 left in the first quarter. Ambles led the Stampeders receivers with two catches for 84-yards and one touchdown.
Bo Levi Mitchell went 20/28 for 296-yards, one touchdown, two interceptions, and five rushing yards. Stampeders running back Ka’Deem Carey had 20 carries for 109-yards. Kicker Rene Paredes did the rest of the scoring with five field goals. The Stampeders’ defense got to Roughriders quarterback Cody Fajardo twice by Mike Rose and one forced fumble.
For the Roughriders, quarterback Cody Fajardo went 20/31 for 191-yards, one touchdown, and six carries for 28-yards. Fajardo’s touchdown came in the second quarter when he threw a 14-yard touchdown pass to Ricardo Louis.
Fajardo initially had thrown a second touchdown to Brayden Lenius. However, after the Stampeders challenged the play, Lenius’s heel stepped out of bounds, and the Roughriders settled for a field goal that tied the game 16-16 in the third quarter.
Roughriders running back William Powell had ten carries for 41-yards, and wide receiver Kyran Moore led the receivers with six catches for 73-yards. Kicker Brett Lauther was a perfect 4/4 on field goals. The defense sacked Mitchell three times with one interception, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery. The loss drops the Roughriders to 5-4 for the season.
Next week, the Calgary Stampeders head to BC Place to battle the BC Lions on Saturday, October 16th, at 7 pm on ESPN+. The Saskatchewan Roughriders are on a bye week.
