Daniel Suarez confirmed on Thursday on his Twitter account that he will not drive for Stewart-Haas Racing next year. Suarez’s announcement comes after a report by Motorsports.com Jim Utter saying that Cole Custer will replace Suarez in the No. 41 car next year.
Suarez moved up to the Monster Energy Cup Series in 2017 after Carl Edwards retired, thus taking over his ride in the No. 19 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota. While Suarez didn’t win a race for Joe Gibbs Racing, he did have one pole, four top-five finishes, and twenty-one top ten finishes. After the 2018 season, Suarez was let go for Martin Truex Jr. but managed to find a ride replacing Kurt Busch in the No. 41 car for Stewart-Haas Racing. This year with Stewart-Hass, Suarez has one pole, four top-five finishes, and eleven top-ten finishes.
Before moving up to the Monster Energy Cup Series, Suarez raced three years in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, winning the championship in 2016. He then split his time racing in both Cup and Xfinity in 2017 and 2018. During his time in the Xfinity Series, he started eighty-four races with six poles, thirty-three top-five finishes, fifty-five top-ten finishes, three wins, and a championship.
After Suarez announced that he won’t be back with Stewart-Haas Racing next year. Stewart-Haas Racing thanked Suarez saying, “Daniel Suarez is the epitome of class. He is a world-class race car driver and an even better person who has represented Stewart-Haas Racing and its partners extremely well. We have much respect and admiration for Daniel, and genuinely wish him nothing but the best in his future endeavors.”
